Short Description

The Yeovil Literary Prize 2025, organized by the Yeovil Community Arts Association, is a prestigious international writing competition open to aspiring writers worldwide. It invites entries in five distinct categories—Novel, Short Story, Poetry, Children’s and Young Adult Novel, and Writing Without Restrictions—each judged by professional experts. In addition, a Local Prize (“Western Gazette Best Local Writer Award”) is available for an entry by an author residing in the Western Gazette distribution area.

 

Categories & Requirements:

Novel:

Requirement: Synopsis and opening chapters (max 10,000 words combined)

Judge: Alison Barrow

Prizes: 1st: £1,350; 2nd: £450; 3rd: £200

Entry Fee: £18.50

 

Short Story:

Requirement: Maximum 2,000 words

Judge: Nikki May

Prizes: 1st: £625; 2nd: £275; 3rd: £150

Entry Fee: £10.50

 

Poetry:

Requirement: Maximum of 40 lines

Judge: James Crowden

Prizes: 1st: £625; 2nd: £250; 3rd: £150

Children’s and Young Adult Novel:

Requirement: First 3,000 words plus a 500-word synopsis

Judge: Ele Fountain

Prizes: 1st: £625; 2nd: £275; 3rd: £150

Writing Without Restrictions:

Requirement: Open submission

Judge: Sarah Hegarty

Prizes: 1st: £275; 2nd: £150; 3rd: £100

Local Prize:

Western Gazette Best Local Writer Award:

For a shortlisted entry by an author in the Western Gazette distribution area

Judge: Yeovil Community Arts Association committee

Prize: £100

 

Eligibility

Open to aspiring writers of all genres from around the world.

For the Local Prize, the applicant must reside in the Western Gazette distribution area.
