Ey!Studio

Description & Background

Founded in 2017 in the Carabanchel neighborhood of Madrid, #Ey!Studio is an independent, self-organized, and artist-run contemporary art space, residency program, and exhibition platform. Run by visual artists and curators Garcia_Fernández (SomosNosotros), the studio is situated in one of Madrid’s leading centers for contemporary artistic production and has welcomed dozens of international residents to develop projects within its vibrant urban context.

Objectives

The organization aims to provide time and space for research, experimentation, and the development of creative projects, with a dedicated emphasis on fostering, supporting, and promoting the visual, performing, and emerging arts. #Ey!Studio seeks to highlight the memory of the Carabanchel district and the city of Madrid by linking the local neighborhood fabric through situated artistic practices. They focus on supporting practices that generate critical discourse and engage with their context through lines of inquiry such as historical memory, feminisms, interdependence, precarity, migration, environmentalism, decolonialism, urbanism, gentrification, and interculturalism. Ultimately, the platform is driven by a mission to make contemporary art and critical thinking accessible to local residents while upholding a firm commitment to gender parity and best professional practices.
