Hôtel D’Artiste (Résidence D’Artiste)

Overview

Housed in a historical building dating back to 1838 (formerly the Hôtel des Trois Pigeons), Hôtel D’Artiste is a restored boutique hotel, retreat space, and artist residency located in Pierrefontaine-les-Varans, within the Jura Mountains region of Franche-Comté, France (near the Dessoubre Valley and the Swiss border). Acquired and restored in 2016 by contemporary artist Marina Bogacheff, the site functions as both a hotel/restaurant and a dedicated cultural incubator hosting bi-annual, 14-day residential sessions for international artists, researchers, and thinkers.

Mission

The Résidence D’Artiste program aims to offer artists dedicated time for research, experimentation, and transdisciplinary dialogue focused on ecological art, human-environment relationships, and new ways of inhabiting the world. Grounded in the fragile ecosystems of the Jura massif, the residency seeks to foster sustainable artistic research, encourage community engagement, and bridge local place-based knowledge with contemporary international creative practice.

Programs / Opportunities

• Bi-Annual 14-Day Residencies (Spring & Fall Sessions): Fully covered residential stays for 6 artists per session (12 residents annually) providing private rooms, half-board meals (breakfast and dinner), basic painting/drawing supplies, high-speed internet, and shared studio/exhibition access (free to selected artists, with a €25 application fee).
• Artistic Retreats & Workshops: Year-round full-board retreat options and workshop spaces for independent artists, writers, and research groups.
• Group Exhibitions & Public Engagement: Programmed group exhibitions and public events connecting residents with the regional Franche-Comté community.
