Overview
Founded in 2024, Kolodium Glass is an independent art association, professional glassmaking workshop, photographic darkroom, and residency space based in Prague, Czech Republic. Located at the Depo Hostivař transit hub (roughly 20 minutes from Prague’s city center), the studio works at the intersection of traditional craft, metal welding, and archaic 19th-century photographic methods—specifically the wet collodion process. Kolodium Glass operates multiple specialized kilns (Marta, Florence, and Růžena), cold-working suites, sandblasting stations, and a complete analog photography studio.
Objectives
Kolodium Glass aims to preserve, innovate, and popularize historical craftsmanship and glass art techniques that face the risk of being forgotten. By bridging traditional glass casting and historical photographic practices with contemporary artistic research, the organization seeks to make specialized equipment accessible to creators of all backgrounds. Grounded in technical mentorship, education, and skill-sharing, the association strives to expand the creative potential of glass sculpture and analog photography.
Programs / Opportunities
- Residency with Glass Casting Course: A structured, fee-based instructional program for artists of any background. Includes one-on-one mentorship, studio access, refractory mold-making, kiln firing, cold working (grinding, polishing, sandblasting), up to 20 kg of glass, and studio documentation.
- Residency for Experienced Glassmakers: A flexible, fee-based residency providing experienced creators with independent studio space, equipment, kilns (for glass casting, fusing, slumping, or ceramic firings), and professional consultations without basic instruction.
- Wet Collodion Process Photography Residency & Course: A dedicated residency program utilizing the photo studio and darkroom to teach collodion chemistry preparation, glass-plate photography across formats, and historical analog printing techniques.
- Specialized Fabrication Services & Public Workshops: Custom glass processing, metal welding, darkroom rentals, lectures, and open studio events for external artists and the public.
