Overview
Founded by painter and curator Chiara von Puttkamer (who studied at Edinburgh University and practiced in Berlin’s contemporary art scene), STUDIOS 94 is a multi-studio creative hub and artist-run complex located on Huay Kaew Road in central Chiang Mai, Thailand. Housed in a five-story building featuring restored vintage decor, flea market finds, and playful design details, the facility serves as an accessible nexus combining artist production suites, coworking areas, a ground-floor community workshop space (SOFT TOUCH Studio), and an exhibition venue (94 Gallery). Situated adjacent to a major art supply store, the hub integrates private creative practice with public visibility.
Objectives
STUDIOS 94 aims to support emerging and independent artists, designers, musicians, and creative nomads by providing affordable space, meaningful visibility, and a strong sense of community belonging. Grounded in the belief that contemporary art thrives on intuitive freedom, playful experimentation, and uninhibited curiosity, the hub seeks to break down institutional rigidity and provide an inspiring, home-like environment where international and local creators can share skills, collaborate, and develop their practices without judgment.
Programs / Opportunities
- Self-Led Residency Programs: Short- to medium-term residential programs (offering formats such as the Private Studio Residency, Artist Studio Residency, and Creative Living Residency) providing private double bedrooms, dedicated studio space, shared facilities (kitchen, lounge, rooftop), and marketing support.
- Studio & Coworking Workspace Rentals: Flexible, dedicated studio desks (Touch Studio for messy/process-based work and Playroom Studio for digital or clean practices) and light-filled coworking spaces for digital artists, freelancers, and creative nomads.
- SOFT TOUCH Studio Workshops & Events: Ground-floor community space hosting public workshops, pop-up events, skill-sharing sessions, one-on-one classes, and open studio showcases.
