The Muswellbrook Art Prize is an annual competition in regional Australia, offering a total of $70,000 in prize money across three categories: Painting ($50,000), Works on Paper ($10,000), and Ceramics ($10,000). The winning works are acquired by the Muswellbrook Shire Art Collection. The prize has a rich history, with notable past winners and a commitment from sponsors like Muswellbrook Shire Council and Bengalla Mining Company.

Eligibility:
Open to all Australian residents aged 16 and over, who have resided in Australia for at least six months before the entry deadline. Excludes employees and immediate family members of Muswellbrook Shire Council, Selection Panel Members, and Adjudicators.

 

How to Apply:

  • Submit entries via the online entry form.
  • No limit on the number of submissions per entrant, but each work can only be entered into one category.
  • Each submission must include:
    • Image of the work (JPEG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, up to 50MB).
    • Work statement (max 500 characters).
    • Entry fee: $45 (Painting), $25 (Works on Paper & Ceramics).

 

Submission Requirements:

  • Work must be original and created within the last 12 months.
  • Must be for sale, with a 35% sales commission and applicable taxes.
  • Works must not exceed specified size limits.
  • Consent must be obtained for the use of any likenesses in the work.

 

Selection Process:
The Selection Panel will review entries based on artistic expression, including aesthetic value, composition, materials, skill, creativity, and presentation. Finalists will be notified and published on relevant forums. The Adjudicator selects the prize winners.
