The International Summer Studio Aschersleben, established in 2015, is a three-month artist residency in the historic town of Aschersleben, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Organized by the City of Aschersleben, the program provides four selected visual artists with a studio and living space at the Bestehornpark educational center. The residency culminates in a group exhibition showcasing the artists’ works.

Key Residency Dates:

  • June 17, 2025 – Arrival of participants
  • June 24, 2025 – City tour & meet-and-greet
  • August 5, 2025 – Open Studio Day
  • August 22, 2025 – Exhibition opening
  • September 7, 2025 – Exhibition ends
  • September 9, 2025 – Departure of participants

 

Eligibility:

  • Open to international visual artists
  • Applicants must have a degree from an art school
  • Accepts all artistic disciplines within visual arts

Submission Requirements:

  • Applications must be in digital format (PDF preferred)
  • Submissions must be complete by February 20, 2025

 

Selection Process:

  • A five-member jury evaluates applications based on artistic merit. The jury includes:
    • Dr. Annegret Laabs – Director, Art Museum “Kloster unser lieben Frauen” Magdeburg
    • Laura Bierau – Art and Culture Mediator
    • Silvia Käther – Director, Graphic Foundation NEO RAUCH
    • Mike Eley – Chairman, Wirtschaftsclub Aschersleben e.V.
    • Jörg Blencke – Head of Creative Workshop, Bestehornpark Aschersleben
  • Selected artists will be notified in early April 2025, and results will be published on the City of Aschersleben website.

 

Program Benefits/Awards:

  • Free studio and living space (furnished, includes electricity, water, heating, and internet)
