Kala’s facilities are spread out over two buildings and feature the following facilities. Please note that we also have a few additional small project spaces that are available for a month as part of Kala’s artist residency program.
The Artist-in-Residence (AIR) Program provides accepted artists with 24-hour access to Kala’s print studio, digital lab, darkroom, sculpture lab, and art-making facilities. Established in 1974, Kala has been supporting emerging and established artists for over 50 years. Kala’s artist residency programs have steadily grown over the years and we’ve recently added housing and new facilities. Each year, Kala welcomes 150 + artists from the Bay Area, from different parts of the US, and from around the world who come together to share ideas, experiment in a variety of disciplines, and create new work.
