Short Description

Since 2015, the Françoise association has been helping to place contemporary artistic practices at the heart of the city, in a dynamic of openness and inclusion of otherness. Her projects – exhibitions, residencies, collaborations with healthcare institutions and associations – question the relationships between art, memory, vulnerability and transmission.

For the Association Françoise, this project is a continuation of collaborations with places such as the Dr. Guislain Museum (Ghent, Belgium), dedicated to the history of psychiatry and outsider art, and the programming of the Fondation Francès.

The collaboration with the Cité internationale des arts is reflected in the implementation of a residency program, designed as a space-time for work, meetings and support for creation, in the context of the Cité identified as a “safe space”: a place of trust, favorable to the development of personal research, but also collective, thanks to the presence of a community of 300 artists of all artistic disciplines, of all generations and all nationalities, and which can allow the development of hybrid and decompartmentalized practices.

Thematic

Art, society, psychiatry, clinical psychology

Art is the witness of psychic life: it finds its source, sometimes its subject. It reflects the discoveries but also the conflicts, imbalances or shortcomings.

The program offers a space for experimentation and dialogue between artist and researcher, promoting a change of point of view on practices and a time for collective elaboration.

A partnership with a place of mental health care (in the field of psychiatry or medico-social care for example) is possible, but is not a prerequisite, as these partnerships can be found during the residency thanks to the support of the Françoise association, the Cité internationale des arts, and Albertine de Galbert.

Eligibility

  • The residency programme has no age limit and is aimed at an artist-author from all disciplines, mid-career or experienced, and a researcher in the humanities, social sciences or life sciences, of all nationalities, residing and working within the European Union.
  • Candidates, artists and researchers must demonstrate good interpersonal skills in French and an already marked interest in the links between art (reception, creation, criticism, etc.) and psychological care.
  • It is possible to apply as an artist/researcher duo, or individually, in which case a connection between artist and researcher will be made by the jury.
