Short Description
The Communities Producer will be responsible for delivering NewBridge’s regular neighbourhood programme and will also support the development of new projects and longer-term public commissions as part of the wider public programme.
This role is central to building and nurturing relationships with community groups, local residents, and partner organizations. By actively listening and learning from neighbours and interconnected communities, the Communities Producer helps shape spaces and programmes that respond to local needs as well as to pressing social, political, and environmental issues of today.
NewBridge is seeking candidates who share the organisation’s values and commitment to supporting both artists and communities. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and well-organized, with strong project management skills. They will prioritize access and inclusivity, be an attentive listener, and demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people.
- Salary: £30,160 pro rata (£18,096 actual for 3 days a week)
- Hours: 3 days (24 hours) a week
- Contract: Beginning January 2026. 1 year contract with likelihood of renewal, funding dependent.
Main Responsibilities
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT & RELATIONSHIP BUILDING
- Build relationships with existing and new community partners, organisations and people in our neighbourhood of Shieldfield.
- Be forward-facing and people-oriented; make time for meaningful conversations with people coming to the building, working across our programmes, attending socials, getting to know people and directing them to other activities or opportunities that might be relevant or of interest.
- Work with partners and stakeholders, including attending relevant community meetings such as Shieldfield Organisations meetings, and partnership steering group meetings with Dwellbeing
Shieldfield and Shieldfield Art Works. - Attend and input into regular programme meetings to share learning from other forums, discuss ideas-in-development and work collaboratively with other team members.
- Support other members of the NewBridge team to build relationships with the intersecting communities we work with, from studio holders to local residents.
PROGRAMME DEVELOPMENT & DELIVERY
- Lead on the delivery and ongoing development of our programme of regular neighbourhood events and socials, including Coffee morning, Memory Cafe and Saturday Socials.
- Deliver and project manage selected commissions with artists and practitioners, creating work that is responsive and embedded in the locality.
- Work closely with the For Solidarity Producer and Programme Director to connect regular community-led activity with commissions at the intersection of art, community building and social justice.
- Manage logistics and administration across our neighbourhood programme, including record keeping, managing budgets, sourcing materials and producing risk assessments for projects and ongoing activity.
- Support artists and freelancers to deliver programmes and activities – working with our wider programme team to select artists, issue letters of agreement and ensure delivery is accessible and
engaging for artists and participants. - Work with other team members to strengthen connections between our neighbourhood programme, artist and skills development work, and wider public programme.
ACCESS & REACH
- Work with Communications Producer and wider team to reach audiences and communities, including through social media platforms, print distribution, and reaching those who might have no
internet/computer access. - Ensuring that our neighbourhood activity and wider programme is accessible to those attending, this will include identifying the need for translation of texts, childcare support or youth-led provision at
events, and addressing other barriers to attending the activity. - Advocate for an intersectional approach to access across our work, looking beyond traditional approaches to equality, diversity and inclusion.
- Demonstrate commitment to safeguarding and well-being of all members of our communities, adhering to policies and procedures, and undertaking training as needed.
EVALUATION & LEARNING
- Lead on collecting evaluations across neighbourhood programmes from local residents and participants.
- Invite visitors and audiences to provide feedback on our programme in order to collect a wide range of insights into our work.
- Share this reflection and feedback with the rest of the team to ensure that it shapes our future programme.
- Be mindful of environmental responsibility across the programmes you manage, and embed sustainable practice within your work.
- Collect audience data, such as feedback forms and visitor/participant numbers.
- Share learning from our ongoing programmes to support the Director and Programme Director to ensure many voices shape our Strategic Plan.
REPORTING & FUNDING
- Support with evaluation and reporting for funders, team members, stakeholders and trustees through providing written and verbal reports and updates.
- Collect evaluation information from audiences, members, artists and peers.
- Contribute to fundraising plans and bids where appropriate.
MANAGEMENT / HR
- Attend regular line managers’ meetings to share best practices and ensure working toward common goals.
- Direct line management of members of staff, which currently includes three part-time Community Facilitators. This includes day-to-day support, regular check-ins and reviews, and any administration relating to this.
- Support with recruitment where appropriate and relevant, which in the future may include Trainee Communities Producers.
Eligibility
Experience and Knowledge
- Experience developing, managing and delivering artists projects or programmes.
- Experience working in collaboration with artists and community members or community groups to co-produce commissions, projects or events.
- Experience working with or reaching diverse communities, including those who may not have previously engaged with art activity.
- Experience in project management and managing budgets.
- Line management experience.
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent communication skills and a good listener, who has the ability to communicate with a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds.
- Enjoys and is able to work both on your own and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Work with attention to detail.
- IT confident, ideally with Office.
- Prepared to work across different locations, including office, gallery, studio environment, community spaces and off-site – we can make reasonable adjustments to support work in different environments.
- Receptive to change and the ability to think on your feet.
