The City of Differdange (Municipal Administration & Cultural Commission). The symposium aims to bring the art of sculpture closer to the general public, producing original works that will become a permanent part of the cultural heritage of Differdange.
Title & Description:
Applications are open for the 11th International Sculpture Symposium.
The 2027 theme is "Racines – Roots," reflecting the deep identity of the city, its multicultural population, stability, and historical past linked to the steel industry. Over a period of 12 days, selected artists will present their creations in the open air, working in public. Visitors will be able to watch the impressive creation of each sculpture on a daily basis.

Eligibility:
- Who: Limited to six (6) selected sculptors.
- Medium & Dimensions: Stone sculpture. Maximum dimensions are 100 × 100 × 120 cm; minimum dimensions are 60 × 60 × 100 cm.
- Mandatory Presence: The presence of the artists on site throughout the entire duration of the symposium (working hours 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM) is mandatory, with the exception of the scheduled rest day.
- Tools & Independence: Sculptors must bring and use their own sculpting and finishing tools (no stone-working tools are provided). Artists must be able to carry out all work independently.
- Insurance: The selected artist must take out civil liability insurance ("Public Liability Insurance") at their own expense and handle all their own social security coverage.
- Intellectual Property: The sculptures will become the property of the organizer and will be permanently installed in Differdange. (Note: Artists retain their moral rights).
Program Benefits & Awards:
- Financial Support: A fee of €3,000 paid at the end of the symposium via international bank transfer.
- Accommodation & Meals: Provided and covered for artists residing abroad from Tuesday evening, May 25, to Monday morning, June 7, 2027. (Note: Travel expenses are NOT covered. Any accompanying persons must cover their own costs).
- Workspace & Materials: Sheltered, illuminated, and suitably equipped outdoor workshop spaces with electricity, compressed air, and water supply. Stone blocks are provided, and the organization will assist with handling and moving the blocks.
Application Requirements:
Artists may submit only one project. The application dossier must include:
- Commitment form.
- Curriculum vitae with a recent photograph.
- Five (5) photographs of completed sculptures (including at least one monumental sculpture).
- A brief project summary.
- Drawing and scale model (1:10) of the proposed project.
- Regulations read and approved.
