2026 Luminarts Creative Writing Fellowship

This fellowship creates a pathway for emerging writers to receive significant financial support and professional validation. The program awards fellowships in two distinct categories: Poetry and Prose (Fiction and Non-fiction). In addition to the monetary grant, Fellows gain access to further project funding and professional development resources for 10 years.

Eligibility:

  • Age: Applicants must be between 18 and 30 years old on the date of submission.

  • Residency: Must live within 150 miles of the Chicago Loop.

  • Legal Status: Must be legally able to receive taxable income in the U.S. (possess a Social Security Number).

  • Availability: Winners are required to attend the Luminarts Creative Writing Showcase in person on May 21, 2026, in Chicago.

Program Benefits & Awards:

  • Fellowship Award: $10,000 for each winner.

  • Finalist Award: $300 Honorable Mention for selected finalists.

  • Long-term Support: Fellows are eligible to apply for additional project funding and professional development opportunities for up to 10 years.

Application Requirements:

  • Blind Writing Sample: Maximum of 5 pages (single-spaced, 12 pt academic font). Important: Your name must be strictly removed from these pages.

  • Artist Statement: 250–500 words outlining career objectives and how the fellowship will impact your career and the Chicago region.

  • CV/Resume: Current professional resume.

  • Reference: Contact information for one professional or educational reference.

  • Audio (Optional): Poetry applicants may upload a reading of their work.

Additional Details:

Strict anonymity is required for the writing samples to ensuring fair judging. Submissions exceeding the 5-page limit will not be considered. Writers may submit one longer piece or multiple shorter pieces (poems/excerpts) as long as the total does not exceed the page limit.
