The Newfoundland and Labrador Artist Residency is hosted by Fogo Island Arts (FIA), a Residency-based contemporary Art venue located on Fogo Island, Newfoundland, Canada. Established in 2008 as an initiative of Shorefast (a registered charity dedicated to building economic and cultural resilience), FIA supports the Research and production of new work by artists, curators, and thinkers globally. Through flagship programs such as this regional Residency, the organization remains world-renowned for its iconic studio architecture and its unique approach to social innovation, connecting global contemporary art practices with the specific cultural and physical landscape of the North Atlantic.

2026 Newfoundland and Labrador Artist Residency
This residency is specifically designed to support artists living and working in Newfoundland and Labrador. It provides an opportunity for a local practitioner to immerse themselves in the unique environment of Fogo Island for a period of six to eight weeks. The program is intended to offer focused time for research, creative experimentation, and the development of new or existing projects within a community-oriented, place-based context.

Eligibility
- Location: Must be an artist currently living and working full-time in Newfoundland and Labrador.
- Professional Status: Open to professional practitioners with specialized training, recognition among their peers, and a history of public presentation of their work in a professional context.
- Skills: Applicants must hold a valid Driver’s License (as a vehicle is provided for on-island use).
- Independence: Must be comfortable working in a self-directed capacity within a remote environment.

- Travel Stipend: A $500 CAD stipend toward travel to and from Fogo Island.
