The symposium is held in collaboration with three major historic ceramic factories in Bolesławiec: Zakłady Ceramiczne “Bolesławiec,” Ceramika Artystyczna, and Manufaktura. Running for over six decades, it is one of the longest-running ceramic art symposia in Europe, bringing contemporary artists into direct contact with the region’s historic ceramic industry.

Applications are open for the 62nd International Ceramic Sculptural Symposium.

Unlike a conventional residency, this symposium takes place inside active ceramic factories, where artists develop their projects in direct dialogue with local materials, industrial processes, and the expertise of factory workers. The theme of the 2026 edition is SUBLIME. In this context, the sublime is understood not as monumentality, but as an experience of intensity, fragility, uncertainty, and transformation. In ceramics, it may emerge through the material process itself: through fire, glaze, drying, cracking, and the unpredictable relationship between intention and outcome.

  • Who: International artists working in ceramics, sculpture, spatial practice, or related fields.
  • Focus: Artists whose work can meaningfully engage with the material process and the context of Bolesławiec, interpreting the idea of SUBLIME through ceramic and sculptural works.
