Organizer Information
Taipei Performing Arts Center (TPAC) is a major contemporary
performing arts institution based in Taipei, Taiwan. Through its international initiatives, TPAC actively supports experimental performance, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and regional exchange across Asia and the Asia-Pacific. One of its flagship programs is ADAM – Asia Discovers Asia Meeting for Contemporary Performance, an artist-driven platform launched in 2017.
ADAM has functioned as a dynamic creative hub, bringing together 85 artists from 27 countries to date. The platform fosters artistic research, experimentation, and long-term professional networks. Rather than focusing on production alone, ADAM emphasizes process, exchange, and collective inquiry. The ADAM Artist Lab is a core component of this ecosystem, designed as a residency model where artists collaboratively develop ideas and methodologies that may evolve into future projects.
Title & Description
Open Call: 2026 ADAM Artist Lab in Taipei & Manila
The 2026 ADAM Artist Lab invites artists from diverse disciplines to participate in a fully supported, two-phase international residency program taking place in Manila (Philippines) and Taipei (Taiwan).
Co-curated by Ness Roque (Philippines) and Ming-Chen Lee (Taiwan), the 2026 edition is titled “Laundry Days.” This thematic framework encourages artists to rethink artistic practice as a process of sorting, cleaning, soaking, observing, and transforming—metaphorically and socially. Rather than creating finished productions, artists will engage in collective research and collaborative inquiry, exploring how temporary gatherings and shared processes can reshape artistic and social landscapes.
The residency unfolds in two phases:
- Phase 1 in Manila (August 2026)
- Phase 2 in Taipei (October 2026)
At the end of each phase, participants will present public sharing events. The final presentation in Taipei will be part of the ADAM Gathering (15–18 October 2026). Selected artists must commit to the entire program, including both phases and public events.
This program is not designed for developing existing works but for inventing new ideas through encounters, dialogue, experimentation, and collective research.
