Allende Arts Space is an independent, vibrant creative hub located in the historic heart of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Operating as a community-centered laboratory, the organization bridges the gap between international visiting creators and the local creative ecosystem. The facility features an expansive communal workshop space, four active permanent studios for local artists, and three dedicated residential units.

Allende Arts Space Artist Residencies (2026 Blocks).

This self-directed residency program offers a supportive sanctuary for creators seeking to escape the friction of daily routines and immerse themselves in their practice. Located in a renowned creative mecca and UNESCO World Heritage Site, the residency balances solitary studio work with active community integration. Rather than forcing rigid project deliverables, the program prioritizes self-led growth, open cross-pollination among disciplines, and organic networking within the rich cultural, social, and gallery structures of San Miguel de Allende.

Residency Infrastructure & Perks:

  • Studio Kit: Every residential unit is equipped with an easel, work table, and dedicated materials storage.
  • Shared Spaces: Complete access to a rooftop terrace and a fully equipped communal kitchen.
  • Local Integration: Personalized structural introductions to regional galleries, local artists, cultural openings, and specialized art supply networks around town.
  • Academic Add-ons: Access to ongoing on-site programs and dynamic drawing or painting classes (available for separate registration fees).
  • Exhibition Option: Long-term residents staying between 2 to 3 months have the exclusive opportunity to present their developed body of work in a curated art show at the end of their stay.
  • Mentorship: Specialized professional mentorship is available upon direct request.

  • Financial Model: Self-funded by the artist. Rates vary based on the selected live/work studio tier:

1. Studio Boho (Budget Single)

A 22 sq meter (230 sq ft) live/work space with a shared bathroom, single bed, desk, work table, easel, and shelving. Note: No additional partners or guests are accepted in this unit.

  • 3-Week Rate: $490 USD
  • 1–3 Month Rate: $650 USD per month
  • 2026 Openings: May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December.

2. Studio Naranja (Large Private Ensuite)

A 42 sq meter (450 sq ft) live/work studio featuring a private ensuite bathroom, queen bed, wardrobe, desk, reading area, work table, and easel. Note: Spouses/partners can be accommodated for an additional $250 USD.

  • 3-Week Rate: $875 USD
  • 1–3 Month Rate: $1,100 USD per month
  • 2026 Openings: November, December.

3. Studio Rojo (Large Private Ensuite)

A 42 sq meter (450 sq ft) live/work studio mirroring the exact structural dimensions and furniture layouts of Studio Naranja. Note: Spouses/partners can be accommodated for an additional $250 USD.

  • 3-Week Rate: $875 USD
  • 1–3 Month Rate: $1,100 USD per month
  • 2026 Openings: July, August, October, November, December.

Application Requirements

Applications are handled online via a year-round submission portal. Prior to filling out the form, applicants must compile the following documents in JPG or PDF formats:

  1. Artist CV: Documenting selected projects, past exhibitions, previous residencies, education, and current contact info.
  2. Artist Statement: A focused text (200–300 words) outlining your current practice, its core inspirations, material techniques, and your overarching creative vision.
  3. Work Portfolio: A curated selection of maximum 5 works. Formats: PDF for writing; JPG/PDF for visual art; MP3/MP4 for music, film, or time-based performance. All files must list dimensions, medium materials, production year, location, and past publication/performance dates.
