Ann Street Gallery (ASG) is a contemporary art space located in Newburgh, New York, operating under the nonprofit organization Safe Harbors of the Hudson (SHOH). Established to support community engagement and the development of contemporary art, ASG presents exhibitions, programming, and resources that foster artistic growth and public immersion. The gallery focuses on socially and ecologically responsive art practices and actively promotes historically underrepresented voices. Tfecxhrough its exhibitions, mentorship programs, and educational initiatives, ASG aims to increase arts literacy, encourage experimentation, and provide professional development for emerging and under-recognized artists in the Hudson Valley region. The Emerging Artist Fellowship (E.A. Fellowship), now in its fifth year, is a cornerstone program supporting early-career artists by offering mentorship, studio access, and exhibition opportunities while fostering a collaborative cohort environment.
Title & Description
Ann Street Gallery Emerging Artist Fellowship 2026
is a six-month program running from June 1 to November 30, 2026, designed to provide early-career or under-recognized artists in Newburgh and the Hudson Valley with mentorship, professional development, and public exposure. The fellowship supports artists from historically marginalized communities and encourages experimental, socially engaged, and interdisciplinary practices. Fellows will participate in a cohort program that includes professional workshops, studio visits, networking, and guided exhibition planning. The program culminates in a public exhibition at Ann Street Gallery during Newburgh Open Studios (September 19 – November 22, 2026) and an opening reception on September 26, 2026. By participating, fellows gain the resources and guidance to expand their artistic practice, connect with regional arts professionals, and develop strategies for long-term artistic careers.

Eligibility
- Emerging or early-career artists

- Applicants must be able to commit to the full six-month program (June–November 2026)
Program Benefits & Awards
- $2,000 materials and supplies allowance per fellow (paid in two installments: $1,500 at program start, $500 upon completion)

Application Requirements
Applicants must submit:
- Current CV or resume (max 3 pages) with contact information, education, exhibitions, awards, residencies, published writings, and relevant experiences
- Artist Statement (max 400 words)
- Proposal (max 600 words) explaining interest in the fellowship, emerging practice, intended project, and alignment with program focus and Newburgh context
- Work Samples: 10 examples (PDF/JPEGs or up to 5 hyperlinks for videos, films, or sound recordings)
- Work Sample ID list including title, date, medium, dimensions/duration, and short descriptions
- Three professional references with Name, Job Title, Relationship, Email, Phone, and Website (if applicable)
All files must include the applicant’s first and last name in the file name. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Additional Details
- Fellows must commit to attending regular meetings, collaborative activities, and exhibition installation dates (September 7, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14)

- The fellowship fosters experimentation, community engagement, and the development of projects that reflect alternative narratives and cultural practices beyond mainstream recognition
