Region Uppsala, in partnership with the Quilt Academy of Sweden and Uppsala Municipality. The residency is situated in the countryside at the Quilt Academy of Sweden, a short drive north of the city of Uppsala.
Title & Description:
Applications are open for the Artist Residency Art ‘n Fiber® 2026.
This unique 3-week residency is designed to foster individual creativity and encourage international collaboration within the textile and fiber arts community. The residency project may continue the artist’s individual practice or serve as a phase in planned or ongoing collaborations with professional fiber/textile artists from the Uppsala region. As part of the residency, the selected artist will present a virtual artist talk at the Uppsala Art Museum and host a one-day workshop.

Eligibility:
- Who: Professional textile/fiber artists who reside in Europe, but OUTSIDE of Sweden. (Only one artist will be selected).
- Accepted Mediums: Applicants should work with modern art expressions and primarily with textile/fiber art techniques such as textile surface design (fabric printing, dyeing, shibori), piecing, applique, quilting (patchwork), free embroidery, and incorporating mixed media.
- Excluded Mediums: Projects based on commercial garments, the fashion industry, and yarn-based methods (tapestry, weaving, knitting, crochet, trapunto) are strictly excluded.
- Companions: An assisting colleague or partner may accompany the artist if well-motivated and clearly explained in the application, but no additional funding is available for them.
Program Benefits & Awards:
- Grant & Travel: A grant of 30,000 SEK to cover expenses for the stay and the workshop, plus a travel allowance of up to 5,000 SEK for travel to and from Sweden. (Note: Separate compensation for the artist talk will be arranged closer to the residency).
- Accommodation & Workspace: A spacious studio, kitchen, bathroom, and small bedroom at the Quilt Academy of Sweden.
- Logistics: Bicycles are freely available for exploring the surroundings, and the residency host offers a car ride upon request (public transport is limited).
- Financial Note: Expenses for insurance (including healthcare) and meals are NOT provided.
Application Requirements:
All applications must be submitted in English. Applications that do not strictly follow these page limits and instructions will be excluded:
- CV: 1 A4 page (portrait). Detailing education, exhibitions, teaching, and links (website/socials).
- Personal Presentation: 1 A4 page (portrait). About yourself, your practice, reasons for applying, and the intended context of your stay.
- Portfolio: Exactly 4 A4 pages (portrait or landscape). Reserve one page for each work. Include pictures/details and a brief description under each photo.
- Workshop Proposition: Propose and describe a one-day workshop related to your artistic practice, including basic required materials.
- Optional: Information regarding an assisting colleague/partner (if applicable).
