Brief Description:
The 2025 Banff Mountain Photo Essay Competition is an international contest designed to recognize outstanding mountain-themed photo essays. Organized by the Banff Centre, this competition seeks compelling visual stories that capture various aspects of mountain life, including culture, adventure, wildlife, sport, environment, and natural history. The competition encourages both amateur and professional photographers to submit high-quality images that form a cohesive narrative.

Information and Application Details:

  • Deadline: May 5, 2025
  • Eligibility: Open to amateur and professional photographers worldwide
  • Theme: Mountain-related photo essays focusing on diverse aspects such as adventure, wildlife, sports, conservation, and culture
  • Submission Requirements:
    • Submit 3 to 5 images that tell a story (each max 2MB)
    • Include a short description of the photo essay
    • Photos must have been taken between 2024 and 2025

Selection Process:

  • A selection committee, led by the Festival Director, will review all entries
  • Finalists will be chosen and reviewed by an international jury
  • The Grand Prize winner will be announced in June 2025

Program Benefits / Awards:

  • Grand Prize: $3,000 CAD
  • Winning essay will be exhibited at the 2025 Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival
  • Finalists may also have their work displayed during the Festival
