Organizer Information
Bryn Du Mansion is a historic estate in Granville, Ohio, whose main house was originally built in the 1860s by local businessman Henry D. Wright. The property passed through several owners — including Jonas McCune, for whom it was known as "McCune's Villa" — before industrialist John Sutphin Jones purchased it in 1905 and, working with architect Frank Packard, transformed it into its present Georgian-Federal style mansion. After decades of ownership, including a stint as the headquarters of the nonprofit Quest International and a later purchase by Longaberger Basket Company founder Dave Longaberger, the Village of Granville acquired the property in 2002 following a public advisory vote. The Bryn Du Commission, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit formed in 2004, now manages the estate for the cultural, recreational, and educational benefit of the community. Within that mission, Bryn Du operates public art programming, including an Artist in Residence program that began as an invitation-only initiative in 2019 and moved to an open application process in 2022.
Title & Description
Bryn Du Artist in Residence Program — 2027 Residencies
Bryn Du's Artist in Residence program is designed to enhance local awareness of and engagement in the arts by introducing new and varied artists to the Granville community throughout the year. The program hosts one artist at a time, of any discipline, for either an 8- or 12-week residency, providing an inspirational setting for the creation of new artistic work. The selected artist resides in the Cramer House, a renovated former laundry building located behind the main mansion, and is expected to lead at least two community engagement activities per month during their stay — such as a poetry reading, an outdoor stage performance, an artist talk, or a gallery show — developed in coordination with Bryn Du staff.
