Buinho Association is a non-profit organization located in the historic town of Messejana in the Alentejo region of Portugal. It distinguishes itself by combining a rural setting with a strong focus on digital fabrication, maker culture, and technology-driven arts.

Title & Description:

Applications are open for the Buinho Creative Residency (Ongoing/Rolling).

The program invites artists, makers, and researchers to live and work in Messejana for a period of two weeks to two months. The residency operates across several distinct houses, providing access to a unique creative ecosystem that includes private studios, a FabLab, and specialized workshops (jewelry, textile, and digital fabrication).

Residents are encouraged to engage with the local community, though the primary focus is on the development of individual projects in a quiet, inspiring rural environment.

Eligibility:

  • Who: Open to artists, designers, researchers, and makers of any nationality.

Program Benefits & Awards:

  • Facilities: Access to a FabLab (3D printers, laser cutters, vinyl cutters), a textile lab (sewing, embroidery, tufting), and a jewelry laboratory.

  • Accommodation: Private bedroom in one of the residency houses (Casa da Avó, Casa de São João, Casa da Padaria, or Casa Buinho).

  • Workspace: Private or shared studios depending on the house selected.

  • Community: Opportunity to exhibit works in town spaces or lead workshops.

Program Costs:

This is a fee-based residency. Fees cover accommodation, utilities, and studio/lab access.

  • Monthly Fees: Range from €800 to €1,200 depending on the room/house chosen (e.g., private vs. shared bath, entire house rental).

  • Accompanying Person: 50% discount (must share accommodation).

  • Deposit: 50% required upon acceptance.
