Title & Description

Collection Research Fellow (Grant-Funded Fellowship)

This fellowship offers an immersive, hands-on opportunity for artists, researchers, and museum professionals to engage with a major contemporary art collection. The Collection Research Fellow will support the documentation, preservation, care, and accessibility of over 1,800 works in The Bronx Museum’s Permanent Collection. Fellows will research objects, update and maintain digital records, source and manage images, and assist in drafting interpretive materials. The position emphasizes works by artists of African, Asian, and Latin American ancestry, as well as artists with strong connections to the Bronx. Fellows will contribute directly to a large-scale digital initiative under the Bloomberg Philanthropies Digital Accelerator Program, ensuring the collection is accessible to scholars and the public worldwide. This is an in-person, part-time role spanning 14 months, providing extensive exposure to contemporary art practices, museum operations, and community-based arts initiatives.

Eligibility

  • Open to international applicants, preferably with a background in Art History, Museum Studies, Arts Administration, or related fields.
  • Candidates with professional experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree may also apply.
  • Advanced experience in artwork database management and knowledge of collection handling are required.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is considered a plus.

  • Hourly compensation: $25–$30 per hour, 28 hours per week (4 days/week)
