Organizer Information

CPR – Center for Performance Research is a nonprofit organization co-founded in 2007 by choreographers Jonah Bokaer and John Jasperse to support artists developing new work in contemporary dance, performance, and time-based art. CPR's founding organizations, John Jasperse Projects/Thin Man Dance, Inc. and Jonah Bokaer Arts Foundation, Inc., co-purchased its Williamsburg, Brooklyn space in 2009, giving CPR a permanent home in a 4,000-square-foot ground-floor facility that is a certified L.E.E.D. Gold green building, among the first of its kind in Brooklyn. CPR describes its mission as supporting artists in the development of new work in contemporary dance, performance, and time-based art. The organization's approach centers on fostering the artistic process as a means of creativity, connection, and social change, while prioritizing racial, ethnic, and aesthetic equity and support for BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and disabled artists. CPR's facility includes two flexible studio spaces, the Large Studio and the Small Studio, offered at subsidized rates for rehearsal, performance, classes, workshops, and exhibitions.

Title & Description

CPR 2027 Artist-in-Residence (AiR) Program

CPR – Center for Performance Research is inviting eligible New York City-based artists to apply for its year-long 2027 Artist-in-Residence Program, running from January to December 2027. The residency supports artists working within various perspectives of contemporary dance, performance, and time-based art, and CPR states it values experimental approaches to content, form, and aesthetic, encouraging risk-taking, interdisciplinarity, and the unexpected. The program creates an open environment for experimentation, exploration, embodiment, and exchange, providing a cohort of six artists with research and presentation opportunities, subsidized rehearsal space, curatorial and project support, and peer dialogue. It is intended to nurture individualized creative processes and prioritizes artists for whom the residency will make a major impact on the growth and evolution of their work and career. Applications are solicited through an open call, with AiRs selected by an independent panel of artists, curators, and arts leaders, an approach CPR frames as working toward a more accessible and equitable selection process and increased visibility, opportunities, and resources for a more diverse range of artists in the field.
