CreArt is a European network of cities dedicated to promoting contemporary artistic creation through collaboration, mobility, and knowledge exchange. Co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union, CreArt connects cultural institutions, municipalities, and artists across multiple European cities. Its mission is to support emerging and mid-career artists by providing opportunities such as residencies, exhibitions, workshops, and public art initiatives.

The residency in České Budějovice is hosted within this broader framework, with the city playing an active role in fostering artistic dialogue in public space. CreArt 3.0 Artist-in-Residence Program 2026 – “Art in the City” (České Budějovice, Czech Republic)

The CreArt 3.0 Artist-in-Residence (AiR) Program titled “Art in the City” invites artists to develop site-specific projects that engage with the public space and urban context of České Budějovice. This residency focuses on the relationship between art and the city, encouraging participants to reflect on how artistic interventions can transform everyday environments and foster community interaction.

Selected artists will be given the opportunity to live and work in the city while developing a project that responds to its social, historical, and spatial characteristics. The program emphasizes experimentation, research, and dialogue with local stakeholders, offering artists the chance to create meaningful connections between their practice and the urban landscape.

Artists are encouraged to explore themes such as public space activation, social engagement, and the role of contemporary art in shaping civic identity. The residency culminates in a public presentation, which may take the form of an exhibition, installation, or participatory event accessible to local audiences.
