This opportunity is hosted by CreArt Kaunas in collaboration with the Kaunas Artists' House. CreArt is a European network supporting contemporary artists through residencies, exhibitions, and cultural exchange, while the Kaunas Artists' House fosters local artistic development and engagement. The open call is part of the CreArt 3.0 program and the festival “Let’s Celebrate the River!”, a community-focused cultural initiative that encourages public interaction with Lithuania’s rivers through artistic interventions and land-based installations.

Title & Description

CreArt 3.0 Open Call for Land/Environmental Artists in Kaunas (10–24 May 2026) CreArt 3.0 invites professional land and environmental artists to create site-specific installations along the Nemunas River in Kaunas, Lithuania. Participants will develop artworks from natural, biodegradable materials that harmonize with the riverbank landscape and local context. The completed works will be presented during the festival “Let’s Celebrate the River!” on May 23, 2026, offering a unique opportunity to engage directly with local communities and festival audiences. Artists are encouraged to explore themes of myth, water, urban nature, sustainability, and community, while producing works that can withstand outdoor conditions and promote public interaction.

Categories

Land Art, Environmental Art, Installation, Public Art, Site-specific, Sustainable Art. Cross-disciplinary approaches are welcome as long as works use natural materials and engage with the riverbank context.

Eligibility

  • Open to professional artists who are residents or born in one of the cities of the CreArt 3.0 network: Kaunas (Lithuania), Liepaja (Latvia), Skopje (North Macedonia), Aveiro (Portugal), Valladolid (Spain), Venice (Italy), Clermont-Ferrand (France), Rouen (France), Ceske Budejovice (Czech Republic), Lublin (Poland), Oulu (Finland), Regensburg (Germany), Croatian artists (HDLU members), and Ukrainian artists via Dialog (Lviv).
  • Artists must be able to travel to Kaunas and implement their project between 10–24 May 2026.
  • Applicants should produce artworks from natural, biodegradable materials and comply with public safety and outdoor installation standards.

Program Benefits & Awards

  • Fee of €900 for a two-week residency and artwork creation.
  • Travel expenses up to €400 (roundtrip) and accommodation for up to 14 days in Kaunas.
  • Materials budget up to €400; preference for natural/biodegradable supplies.
  • Access to technical equipment, volunteer support, and on-site resources.
  • Promotion through CreArt, Kaunas Artists' House, and partner communication channels.
  • Professional documentation of the artwork and residency activities.

Additional Details

  • Only two artists will be selected.
  • Artworks must be outdoor-safe, non-toxic, and respect local biodiversity (no attachments to living trees).
  • After the festival, artworks may be deconstructed or left for natural decay/transformation for up to 12 months.
