MTA Arts & Design (A&D). This program delivers engaging and innovative visual arts to enhance the transit experience throughout the New York region.

Title & Description:

Applications are open for the Digital Art Program - 2026 Open Call.

Artists are invited to submit previous digital artworks to be considered for large-scale multi-channel installations at Fulton Transit Center, Grand Central Madison, and Moynihan Train Hall for 2027 programming.

Category:

Digital Art & New Media (Including video art, film, animation, augmented reality, net art, game engines, generative art, and other digital forms).

Eligibility:

  • Who: Open to all artists. Eligibility is based on artistic merit, exhibition history, and demonstrated technical proficiency.
  • U.S. Taxpayer ID: Successful applicants MUST have a valid U.S. Taxpayer Identification Number.
  • Medium Experience: Artists working primarily in non-digital mediums are welcome to apply, but they MUST provide a detailed explanation of their technical expertise and/or collaboration plan with technical partners within the application.
  • Audio Constraint: Applicants should note that none of the exhibition sites have audio capability.
  • Work Specifications: Final commissioned artworks will be up to two minutes in length and displayed for approximately three months.

Program Benefits & Awards:

  • Finalist Honorarium: Selected finalists will receive an honorarium of $1,000 to develop a site-specific artwork proposal.
  • Project Budget: Full project budgets for the final commissioned artists will be determined based on the nature of the project (which may include pre- and post-production).
  • Exposure: Artwork will be displayed in high-traffic NYC transit hubs.

Application Requirements:

  • Submission Portal: Applications must be submitted online via Submittable. (Do not mail or email materials).
  • Required Files: 1. Up to 5 completed works in digital format (.mov or .mp4).2. Up to 10 still images (.jpg or .png).3. Short application form, bio, CV, and a brief artist statement.
  • File Naming: To ensure files display in the correct order, applicants MUST use alphanumeric titles (e.g., 01FileName, 02FileName, 03FileName).
