The Doug Pensinger Photography Fund (DPPF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting emerging and early-career sports photographers. The fund honors Doug Pensinger's generosity of spirit, strong work ethic, and sense of camaraderie.

Applications are open for the 2026 DPPF Sports Photography Grants.
This program provides vital financial support and career development access to talented up-and-coming sports photojournalists. Selected photographers will receive funding (which must be used strictly for career development purposes, such as gear, workshops, or career travel) and an invitation to the highly exclusive DPPF Sports Photography Gathering for portfolio reviews and 1-on-1 industry networking.

Eligibility:
- Who: Emerging and early-career sports photographers (including students). No age restrictions.
- Experience Limit: Photographers with more than 3 years of cumulative paid professional sports photography experience are considered beyond the scope of this program and are ineligible.
- International Applicants: Welcome to apply, except photographers from countries for which the U.S. has active sanctions in place. (Note: The DPPF cannot provide visa procurement support).
- Exclusions: Previous DPPF grant recipients cannot apply.
Program Benefits & Awards:
- Primary Grants (7 Winners): A $5,000 grant + an expenses-paid trip to the 2026 DPPF Sports Photography Gathering.
- Mentorship Add-on: Up to 3 of these 7 winners will also be chosen for a year-long mentorship with leading industry professionals (Oct 2026 – Sept 2027).
- Development Grants (Up to 3 Winners): Chosen from the remaining applicant pool, these winners receive a $2,500 grant + an expenses-paid trip to the Gathering. This specific grant supports photographers facing significant cultural, political, and/or geographic challenges.
- The Gathering (Sept 16-18, 2026): An exclusive event featuring individual portfolio reviews, professional consults, and networking with top working professionals. (Note for International Winners: Travel coverage for the Gathering is limited to reimbursement for the U.S. domestic portion of your airfare).

Application Requirements:
All submissions must be in English.
- Resume: Must include dates to verify your level of professional experience.
- Professional Bio: Maximum 1500 characters.
- Portfolio (Strict Rules): Exactly 20 sports photographs (action and portrait both accepted). JPG format, minimum 1500px on the long side.
- Date Rules: All 20 images must be taken on or after 1/1/2022. 15 of those 20 images must be taken on or after 1/1/2024. (Metadata must include the date taken).
- Editing Rules: No heavy digital manipulation. The use of AI generative tools to create, add, remove, expand, or alter images is expressly prohibited.
- Optional Mentorship Essay: (Max 1500 characters). Required only if you want to be considered for the Mentorship add-on.
- Optional Development Grant Essay: (Max 1500 characters). Required only if you want to be considered for the $2,500 Development Grant.

- Application Window: March 15 – May 1, 2026 (11:59 PM). (Note: The deadline time is localized and based on the time zone of the IP address of the computer you use to submit).
- Notification of Results: Prior to July 1, 2026.
