Organizer Information
The Association for Art History (AAH), formerly the Association of Art Historians, is a British organisation promoting the professional practice and public understanding of art history. Formed in 1974, it rebranded under its current name in 2016. Based in London and a registered charity (No. 1154066), the AAH describes itself as the subject association for art history and visual culture in the UK, bringing people together to share knowledge, inspire new thinking, and advance research through advocacy, events, networks, membership, grants, and publications. It is governed by a board of trustees and operates individual and institutional membership schemes open to anyone with a professional commitment to art history and visual culture. Art History, the Association's flagship journal, was founded in 1978 and is published internationally in partnership with Oxford University Press's Oxford Academic platform. As stated in the source, since 1978 the journal has published essays, critical reviews, and special issues that expand the terms and scope of the discipline, foregrounding new ways of thinking about art and visual culture and their institutions and infrastructures, across a wide range of times and places.
