The Fondation Fiminco, in collaboration with the Taiwan Cultural Center in Paris, invites applications from Taiwanese artists specializing in new media and digital art for a 4-month funded residency in Romainville, France. This residency provides artists with research, creation, and production opportunities within an international artistic community, offering professional mentorship and state-of-the-art facilities.

Organizers:

  • Fondation Fiminco: An international arts hub in Romainville (near Paris), France, hosting artists, curators, galleries, and cultural organizations. It supports contemporary art production through multidisciplinary workshops and exhibitions.
  • Taiwan Cultural Center in Paris: Established by Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture, it promotes Taiwanese arts and culture across France and Europe.

Eligibility:

  • Open to Taiwanese artists of any age.
  • Applicants must have an established professional career in new media and digital art.

 

Theme & Objectives:

The residency is named “APOLAN” after the native Taiwanese orchid Phalaenopsis amabilis, symbolizing uniqueness and creativity. The program supports artists in developing new projects, exploring artistic collaborations, and engaging with the local artistic and cultural scene in France.

 

How to Apply:

Applications must be submitted online via Google Forms by February 17, 2025 (Midnight CET). Submissions can be in French/Mandarin or English/Mandarin.

 

Submission Requirements:

Mandatory Documents:

  1. CV (Max. 2 pages) detailing education and professional background.
  2. Letter of Intent (Max. 2 pages) outlining the proposed research project.
  3. Portfolio (Max. 5 pages) showcasing recent works.
  4. Recommendation Letters (Up to 3) supporting the application.

Optional Documents:

  • Publications, videos, press articles, and other relevant materials.

 

Selection Process:

  • February 26, 2025: Shortlisted candidates invited for an online interview.
  • Early March 2025: Final selection announcement.
  • April 1, 2025: Residency begins.

 

Program Benefits:

  • Accommodation: A furnished studio with a private bathroom, shared kitchen, and common areas.
  • Studio Space: Individual workspaces in a collective studio environment.
  • Technical Facilities: Access to engraving, ceramics, 3D printing, video, screen printing, and construction workshops.
  • Professional & Administrative Support: Residency team assistance with visas and additional grants.
  • Funding: A 305,000 NTD (~9,000 EUR) grant covering living expenses, travel, production, insurance, and visa costs (artists must apply separately for the grant upon selection).
  • Networking & Exposure: Meetings with curators, collectors, galleries, and press, open studios, and cultural field trips.
  • End-of-Residency Presentation: A final showcase of the artist’s work, plus a required project report for the Ministry of Culture.
  • Community Engagement: Artists are encouraged to participate in workshops, lectures, and cultural mediation programs with local institutions.
