The programme emphasizes independence, critical inquiry, and exposure to the UK contemporary art scene.
Title & Description
Gasworks Residency for artists based in the Caribbean 2027
The Gasworks Residency 2027 is an eleven-week fully funded Residency in London designed exclusively for an early-career contemporary visual artist based in the Caribbean region. Running from 6 January to 24 March 2027, the programme provides selected artists with studio space, accommodation, financial support, and institutional access within one of London’s most respected contemporary art spaces.
The residency is self-directed and non-prescriptive, encouraging artists to pursue their own research, experimentation, and production without thematic restrictions. Artists are expected to engage actively with London’s cultural landscape, develop new work, and participate in professional exchange through studio visits, networking opportunities, and public presentations.
A key component of the residency is the Open Studio event, where the artist presents ongoing research and work-in-progress to curators, peers, and the public. The programme also includes documentation and a dedicated online residency profile hosted by Gasworks.
This opportunity is designed for artists working in experimental and contemporary practices who are seeking international exposure, professional development, and critical engagement within a global art context.

Additional Details
This residency is highly competitive and prioritizes artists who have not previously worked in London. The programme is self-led, meaning artists are expected to independently drive their research and production while benefiting from institutional support and curatorial engagement.
Gasworks places strong emphasis on accessibility, offering fully accessible facilities and encouraging applicants with diverse needs to apply. However, the residency is limited to single participants and does not accommodate partners, children, or collectives due to housing and funding constraints.
Applicants are strongly advised to research Gasworks’ previous residency alumni and institutional context before applying, as the selection panel evaluates both artistic quality and alignment with the programme’s research-based ethos.
