The association “Das Goldene Segel” announces an international art competition every two years. In choosing the themes, not only the region of Bad Zwischenahn and artistic aspects are highlighted, but also social and environmental considerations. The required techniques vary across the different artistic disciplines.
In 2026, the association “Das Goldene Segel” will celebrate a very special anniversary: the art prize will be awarded for the 10th time. This event will be honored in the discipline of Photography with a dedicated theme.
The theme of the 2026 art competition is: ENCOUNTERS in Focus
Submission Requirements
2 photos of the artwork in A4 size (landscape format)
1 USB stick (data carrier) containing:
- Image file of the artwork as a JPEG (300 dpi resolution)
- A photo of the artist as a JPEG
- A statement about the submitted work (approx. 180 characters, Word file)
- The artist’s CV (Word file)
- If available: QR code as JPEG file

Program Benefits & Awards
A renowned jury decides on the awarding of prizes and nominations. The 3 main prizewinners, 1 youth prizewinner, 1 children’s prizewinner, and 14 nominees will be honored at the award ceremony on May 2, 2026, in the Wandelhalle in Bad Zwischenahn.
Cash prizes totaling €3,500 and a children’s prize will be awarded to the winners. All selected artworks will be printed on sail flags and will wave in the wind of the spa park in Bad Zwischenahn for about six months. With this format, the association aims not only to provide artists with a special platform, but also to inspire the many visitors of the park with contemporary art. This spectacular exhibition will be complemented by corresponding information boards.
The exclusivity is further enhanced by a traveling exhibition of the selected works at various locations. In addition, the works of the prizewinners and nominees will be published in a photo book, in which the artists present themselves and their works in detail. Other submitted artworks will also be included in the photo book.
- For children up to the age of 14, a non-cash prize will be awarded.
- For young people up to the age of 24, a Youth Prize of €500 will be awarded.
- From the age of 25, the following prizes will be awarded:
- 1st Prize: €1,500
- 2nd Prize: €1,000
- 3rd Prize: €500
