Short Description
In 2025, the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle will announce the traditional Gustav Weidanz Prize for Sculpture for the 23rd time. The award is one of the few young talent awards in Germany that is exclusively reserved for the art of sculpture. Sculptors residing in Germany who have not yet reached the age of 35 (including those born in 1990) are eligible to participate. The award has been awarded on a rotating basis since 1975 in accordance with the testamentary disposition of the Halle sculptor Gustav Weidanz (1889–1970), who worked at the BURG for many years.
Eligibility
This is the 23rd time that the traditional award has been announced. Sculptors residing in Germany who have not yet reached the age of 35 can apply.
Submission Requirements
- Completed and signed application form
- Letter of motivation/statement on artistic work, max. 1/2 page DIN A4
- CV (education, prizes, scholarships, exhibitions), max. 2 pages DIN A4
- Illustrations/documentation of current artistic works, videos in the form of links to view copies on Vimeo/YouTube or as a download link
How to Apply
All four documents are to be combined as a portfolio in a PDF in printable resolution (DIN A4, max. 30 pages, max. 30 MB) and named with Vorname_Nachname. The portfolio is uploaded to: www.burg-halle.de/gustav-weidanz-preis-upload
Program Benefits & Awards
The Gustav Weidanz Prize is endowed with 2,500 euros. In autumn/winter 2026, a cabinet exhibition with works by the prize winner will be held in cooperation with the Kunstmuseum Moritzburg Halle (Saale). A photo documentation is being created for this purpose. The prize money will be handed over at the opening of the exhibition.
