A Turma is an independent creative structure based in Porto, Portugal, working in performing and audiovisual arts. In partnership with the Porto City Council, they organize the InResidence initiative to bring international artists closer to the city's cultural fabric through residency projects.

Applications are open for InResidence 2026.

A Turma is seeking a playwright or theatre maker for a two-month residency focused on the research and development of a new dramaturgy or theatrical creation. Visual artists and performers whose projects relate to new dramaturgy are also welcome to apply.

The residency aims to provide time and space for creation, culminating in an informal presentation of the developed work. Additionally, the selected artist is invited to lead a workshop for local young actors and theatre makers to share their methodologies.

The grant is managed by A Turma in articulation with the artist, covering payment, travel, production, and logistics.

Eligibility:

  • Who: International artists (non-Portuguese residents).

  • Scope: Individual artists or companies (Note: Accommodation is a one-bedroom apartment; companies must cover extra housing costs).

  • Focus: Creation of new dramaturgy or theatrical research.

Program Benefits & Awards:

  • Grant (European Artists): €5,000.

  • Grant (Intercontinental Artists): €6,000.

  • Note: The grant is managed by the organization and covers the artist's fee, travel costs, creation materials, technical support, food, and other logistics.

  • Accommodation: A one-bedroom apartment is provided.

  • Workspace: Access to A Turma's facilities (Blackbox studio, rehearsal studio, office, costume atelier).
