Short Description

The Institut français x Cité internationale des arts Residencies program is aimed at artists and cultural professionals residing abroad for at least 5 years, who wish to develop a research and creative project in Paris, during a residency of three, six or nine months.

With the support and on behalf of the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs—both of which sponsor live-in studios at the Cité internationale des arts—the Institut français is launching its annual call for applications for residencies of three, six, or nine months, to take place between April 2026 and April 2027.

This program is open to artists and culture professionals of all disciplines who have been permanently residing abroad for at least five years.

Eligibility

Artists’ applications must be submitted by one or more cultural partners (such as the French cultural network abroad or French/foreign cultural institutions). These partners support the application by submitting the file and by covering the costs of international travel and a residency allowance. The Institut français provides the laureates with a live-in studio at the Cité internationale des arts free of charge, along with artistic and professional support.

The selection process is open to artists and cultural professionals, without age limit, from all countries, in the following disciplines:

  • Cinema (animation, fiction, creative documentary, video art)
  • Digital creation (digital art, video games, VR)

Program Benefits & Awards

  • The Institut français de Paris is responsible for renting individual studio apartments at the Cité internationale des arts. These are located on the Marais site (18 rue de l’Hôtel de Ville, 75004). They are furnished, equipped with a Wifi connection and include a working room with a bedroom area, a bathroom and a kitchenette.
  • The associate partner(s) undertake to cover round-trip travel expenses; ensure that the artist has insurance covering repatriation, hospitalization, medical expenses and civil liability; ensure that the artist has a visa allowing him/her to stay in France for the duration of the residency; provide the artist with a living allowance of at least €1,000 per month.
