The Japan Illustrators Association (JIA) is a premier professional organization dedicated to the promotion of illustration and the discovery of new talent. Each year, the JIA hosts this prestigious international competition to provide a "gateway" for illustrators who possess exceptional skill but have not yet achieved significant commercial recognition. JIA Illustration Award 2026.
This is a global call for entries designed to discover and reward outstanding original illustrations. The contest is open to all genres, including hand-painted, digital, and three-dimensional works. JIA emphasizes a "safe-to-fail" environment for creative exploration, prioritizing unpublished, original art that has not yet been used for commercial purposes. Notably, the contest strictly prohibits the use of AI in any part of the creative process.

Eligibility
- General: Open to everyone globally, regardless of professional or amateur status.
- Exclusions: Works that have already been used for professional jobs are not accepted.
- Ethics: Works created even partially with AI are strictly prohibited.
- Capacity: Each applicant is limited to a maximum of 5 entries.
Program Benefits & Awards
- Total Prize Pool: 800,000 yen.
- Grand Prix (1 Artist): 500,000 yen, a digital certificate, and a lifetime exemption from JIA annual membership fees.
- Gold Award (1 Artist): 200,000 yen, a digital certificate, and a lifetime JIA membership fee exemption.
- Platinum Award (1 Artist): 100,000 yen, a digital certificate, and a lifetime JIA membership fee exemption.
- Silver (20) & Bronze (30) Awards: Digital certificates and significantly reduced JIA membership fees.
- Industry Exposure: Winning works are showcased on the JIA website, reaching a vast network of publishers and ad agencies.
Application Fee:
- General Entry: 5,000 yen for 1 piece; 9,000 yen for 2; 12,000 yen for 3; 14,000 yen for 4; 15,000 yen for 5.
- JIA Members: Discounted rates starting at 4,000 yen for 1 piece up to 11,000 yen for 5.
- Payment: Fees must be paid via PayPal at the time of application.
Application Requirements:
- Technical Specs: Digital files must be JPEG, RGB color mode, and within 2,000 pixels in width/height.
- Documentation: Hand-painted works must be scanned; 3D works require 3 photos from different angles compiled into one set.
- Details: Entry form requires name, email, physical address, phone number, work titles, and art supplies/software used.
How to Apply
Applicants must attach their digital files to the official Online Entry Form. If the form fails, entries can be sent via email following the specific naming convention: Firstname_Lastname_number.jpg.

Additional Details
The JIA Selection Committee consists of five expert judges who conduct strict evaluations. While illustrators retain the copyright to their work, the Japan Illustrators Association reserves the right to use the award-winning images for promotional and exhibition purposes.
