Organizer Information:
Kimmel Harding Nelson (KHN) Center for the Arts. Since 2001, KHN has awarded more than 1,400 residencies to working visual artists, writers, composers, and interdisciplinary artists from across the country and around the world.

Applications will open soon for the KHN Residency (2027 Session 1).
KHN awards up to 78 juried, self-directed residencies per year. The program offers dedicated time and space for artists to focus on their creative practice. (Note: KHN gives special consideration to emerging artists/recent graduates and artists living in or from Nebraska).

Eligibility:
- Who: Composers, writers, visual artists, and interdisciplinary artists from across the country and around the world.
- Blind Jury: KHN utilizes a strictly blind jury process. You MUST remove your name, credits, awards, universities, employers, collaborators, commissioning/publishing agents, and gallery/venue names from your two statements and from all uploaded work samples (including file names, titles, and descriptions).
- Alumni Rules: Former residents may re-apply for a maximum of two residencies within their lifetime. Non-Nebraska alumni must wait TWO years after their original application to re-apply (Nebraska alumni must wait ONE year).
Program Benefits & Awards:
- Stipend: A $175 weekly food/living stipend.
- Workspace & Accommodation: Housing includes a private bedroom, bathroom, and studio space. (Writers/visual artists generally share an apartment; Composers are generally housed in a separate garden-level studio apartment).
- Travel Support: While all general travel expenses are the responsibility of the awardee, KHN will pay the specific $100 taxi fare from Omaha Eppley Airfield (OMA) or Lincoln Airport (LNK) to Nebraska City upon arrival/departure.
Application Fee & Program Costs:
- Application Fee: A $35 non-refundable fee paid via credit card through the online portal. KHN is strictly unable to waive the application fee.

All applications must be submitted via the online portal. Emailed or mailed applications will not be considered.
- General Information: Including preferred dates/length of residency.
- Anonymous Statement of Submitted Works: Clarifying the work and its relevance. (Do NOT include identifying info).
- Anonymous Statement of Intent: Explaining how you will use the time and why KHN is important to you now. (Do NOT include identifying info).
- Anonymous Work Samples: Prepared according to the discipline-specific guidelines provided on their website.
- References: Contact info for two professional references.
- Professional History / CV: Your name may appear in this section.
Key Dates:
- Application Portal Opens: May 1, 2026.
- Application Deadline: September 1, 2026.
- Notification of Results: By November 1, 2026.
- Residency Dates (Session 1): Scheduled between January 4 – June 18, 2027 (Residencies are 2 to 8 weeks in length; beginning on a Monday and concluding on a Friday).
