Short Description
The Marguerite Moreau Prize, created in 1997, aims to support and accompany emerging artists from the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in their professional careers. A bequest from Madame Marguerite Moreau, a former teacher and student of the School of Visual Arts in Châtellerault, allows emerging artists under the age of 35, residing in the region and holding the status of professional independent artist-author, to benefit from a creation grant and an exhibition.
The Marguerite Moreau Association still oversees this initiative today, which is managed by the Art Center, School of Art, and Art Library of Grand-Châtellerault — a structure that brings together three entities and develops visual arts projects for the local community.
Since 1997, the Marguerite Moreau Prize has supported an artist every two years by awarding a grant, organizing an exhibition, publishing a catalog, and, depending on the artist’s wishes, producing a print in the workshops of the Grand-Châtellerault School of Visual Arts.
For this new edition, the Grand-Châtellerault Contemporary Art Center, organizer of the exhibition, is partnering with Les Ailes du désir Association of Poitiers — a committed organization supporting the creation and dissemination of visual arts in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The association has worked for many years to promote contemporary art and develop arts education in the region.
As it ceases its activities in 2024, the association has chosen to extend its mission of supporting emerging creation by providing financial assistance to the Marguerite Moreau Prize. This additional support will help promote the winning artist in Châtellerault and will enhance the means dedicated to increasing the visibility of their work (expanded communication, production of a critical text, related events, professional support for the artist, etc.).
