Organizer Information
Material Works Art (MW) is an artist-run project platform established in 2024 to support artists and expand opportunities for the development, recognition, and circulation of contemporary art. Based in Chicago, Illinois, the organization states its mission is to empower artists and the continued development of their work through offering awards, collection-building, and exposure opportunities, aiming to build a growing ecosystem for discovering, collecting, and sharing ambitious work. The Material Works Art Collection, built from past award cycles (including 2024 and 2025 award recipients), is a private collection based in Chicago that is available to the public by appointment. The Material Works Art Award is now in its 2026 edition, following prior editions in 2024 and 2025 that operated under a substantially similar structure.
Title & Description
Material Works Art Award 2026
The Material Works Art Award supports artists through a one-time $2,500 award granted in exchange for an original artwork that will join Material Works' growing contemporary art collection. The award is intended to recognize artistic excellence and promote the selected artist's career advancement through increased visibility and exposure. The organization is currently accepting applications from artists with contemporary art practices; the award functions as a purchase-prize model, where the selected work is acquired for the permanent collection in exchange for the cash award.
