McKnight Artist Fellowship for Dancers 2026

This fellowship recognizes and supports Minnesota dancers who have surpassed the early stages of their careers and demonstrate sustained artistic achievement. Selected fellows receive financial support to commission a new solo dance work, which will premiere in a joint showcase titled SOLO. Beyond commissioning, fellows gain access to career development opportunities, retreats, consultations, and national residencies. The program celebrates artistic commitment, long-term contribution to the dance community, and fosters professional growth through mentorship and networking.

Eligibility

  • Must be a Minnesota resident (or part of a Native Nation within the geography) for at least one year prior to application and for the fellowship year.
  • Beyond the emerging stage of their career, with a minimum of 8 years of committed dance work outside accredited degree programs.
  • Can only apply to one McKnight Artist Fellowship per year.
  • Cannot have received a McKnight Fellowship in the last five years.
  • Must demonstrate ongoing artistic growth since any prior McKnight Fellowship.
  • Not eligible if staff, board member, or immediate family of the McKnight Foundation or Springboard for the Arts.
  • Not enrolled full-time in an academic program.
  • Must have a US federal tax number.

  • Three unrestricted fellowships of $25,000 each.
