Eligibility:
- Open to screenwriters working in any genre.
- Minimum age: 18 years or older.
- Available to writers worldwide.
- No requirement to fulfill specific fellowship criteria to apply for a core residency, but named fellowships are available with additional eligibility criteria.
Theme:
- Focused on screenwriting and narrative development. Participants are encouraged to use the residency to focus on their creative process and to further their work in screenwriting.
How to Apply:
- Submit the following documents through the Submittable portal:
- Artist Statement: One-page (max.), focused on your creative process (no personal info).
- Work Samples: Maximum 20 pages of your best work (in standard industry format, double-spaced, 11-12 pt font).
- Biographical Statement: One-page (max.) in third person, detailing relevant education, experience, and how you discovered Millay Arts.
- Scheduling Preferences: Indicate up to three preferred residency periods (March–July or August–November).
- Submit for consideration in a Core Residency or apply for Named Fellowships.

Selection Process:
- Jurors: Practicing professionals, critics, and alumni, with rotating panels each year.
- Blind Review: Submissions are reviewed without identifying information to ensure selection is based on merit.
- Process: Jurors review artist statements and work samples, and each submission is assigned a number for anonymity.
Additional Notes:
- Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and selected participants will be notified after the respective deadline closes. Be sure to submit complete and finalized applications to ensure eligibility.
Program Benefits & Awards:
- Core Residency: Provides time and space for screenwriters to focus on their creative process and projects.
- Named Fellowships:
- Charm City Fellow and Beyond: For applicants from MD, PA, D.C., NJ, VA, VI. Includes travel stipend and preference for BIPOC applicants from Baltimore.
- Institute of American Indian Arts Fellow: For one Native American artist (no stipend).
- Nancy Graves Fellow: For artists whose work is archive-based, with access to the Nancy Graves Memorial Library (no stipend).
- Vincent Prize Fellow: For two applicants identifying as trans*/genderqueer, may include stipend depending on funding.
- Residency Period: Generally 3.5 weeks, with 12-day options in June and September.
- Stipends and Travel: Some fellowships (e.g., Charm City Fellow) offer stipends for travel or materials, though most fellowships do not include direct funding.
- Connections: Opportunities for engagement with fellow artists and creative professionals.
- End-of-Residency Presentation: Option to present work created during the residency.
