Organizer Information

The mumok – Museum of Modern Art Ludwig Foundation Vienna is the largest museum for modern and contemporary art in Austria, with a comprehensive collection of international art of the 20th and 21st centuries. Founded on September 21, 1962, as the Museum of the Twentieth Century, the institution was originally housed in the Austrian Pavilion built for Expo 58 in Brussels, before relocating to the Palais Liechtenstein in 1979. In 1981, the Austrian Ludwig Foundation was established by Herta Firnberg and Peter and Irene Ludwig, transferring a significant part of the Ludwig collection into permanent loan to the museum, which was subsequently renamed Museum moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Wien. Since 2001, the museum has been based in its purpose-built home in Vienna's MuseumsQuartier, designed by Ortner & Ortner. Today mumok holds around 10,000 works by roughly 1,600 artists, with particular strength in Pop Art, Nouveau Réalisme, Fluxus, and Viennese Actionism, alongside classical modernism and an actively growing contemporary collection. As the source states, in its exhibition, collecting, and research activities, mumok thinks and acts internationally, seeing itself as a place of lively engagement with art of the 20th century and the present.
