Organizer Information

Naughty Muse Studios is an independent contemporary art space and studio facility located in the coastal cultural hub of Busan, South Korea. The studio operates as an alternative, self-contained creative ecosystem built to reduce logistical friction for international and local creators. Committed to absolute creative integrity, the platform values inclusivity and honors varied worldviews, welcoming practitioners regardless of age, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or gender identity/expression. By providing specialized production machinery and structured regional exploration, the organization serves as a cross-cultural conduit connecting independent makers with South Korea's rapidly expanding art market.

Title & Description

Naughty Muse Studios Artist Residency Program (2027 Cycle).

This self-directed residency invites global visual artists, printmakers, and interdisciplinary researchers to immerse themselves in the dynamic creative landscape of South Korea’s second-largest city. Rather than forcing rigid institutional deliverables or demanding fixed final outputs, the program is intentionally structured to honor the organic evolution of a practice. The studios trust individual creators to define their own rhythms—whether their target is to produce a brand-new body of work, experiment with unfamiliar media, or simply rejuvenate their creative perspective through deep geographical immersion.

The Spatial Design Philosophy:

To stimulate active curiosity, the residency intentionally separates working and living environments:

  • The Shared Production Studio: Situated just a short walking distance from Songjeong Beach—a white sandy surfing coast lined with local cafes and design schools—the workshop houses shared creative zones for up to 4 to 6 residents max per cycle.
  • The Residential Apartments: Located in the famous Haeundae district, renowned for its coastal luxury hotels, bustling nightlife, and traditional markets, artists are housed in private, self-contained studio apartments. This separation requires a daily commute through the city streets, encouraging artists to discover hidden local gems, interact with the urban fabric, and fall in love with Busan's maritime texture.

Additional Details

The final selection is governed by an expert evaluation panel of active contemporary artists and international industry professionals. Portfolios are assessed based on the overall technical quality of past work, proof of an active studio practice, the clarity of the project description, and the clear relevance of Busan's unique maritime environment or art ecosystem (such as Art Busan or BAMA) to your long-term career development. Because the program operates inside specialized workspace floors, consumables must be securely packed or sourced from the major art supply outlets situated within the metropolitan center.
