Playground is the magazine that dares to explore, question, and re-envision the creative industries. Through thought-provoking essays, reports, and bold, honest conversations, it’s where curiosity meets play and inspiration. Packed full of smart insights and egoless advice, Playground is a must-read for those working in, or curious about, Europe’s vibrant creative and cultural sectors.

Title & Description:

This is an Open Call for contributors for Playground magazine’s Issue 5.

Playground champions honesty, collaboration, longevity, and play. The organizers are looking for people who resonate with these notions and share the vision of a more open and supportive creative industry.

They highly encourage brave ideas, opinions, unexpected insights, and humour. They are especially curious to hear 'local' pitches that are about patterns noticed in your own surroundings—ideas, people, trends—local but relevant for global audiences.

Category:

  • Essays/Opinion piece: Fresh, insightful, and personal (550-900 words).

  • Illustration: Sketches, complete works, or intention to collaborate.

  • Photo Essays: 5-6 photos and a paragraph to introduce your idea.

  • Interviews: Proposals for who to interview and why.

  • Surprise us: New playful formats.

Eligibility:

  • Who: Anyone can participate. The organizers value the quality of ideas and their compatibility with the editorial vision above everything else.

  • Portfolio: Seeing a strong portfolio provides confidence in your ability to bring the idea to life.

Program Benefits & Awards:

  • Payment: A base offer of 1500 SEK (Swedish Krona) for each contributor.

  • Copy: Each contributor will receive a copy of the magazine.

Free.

Application Requirements:

  • Submission: You are not required to submit complete pieces yet. You must provide ideas, creative vision, and previous work.

  • Intentionality: Ideas must be specifically come up with for Playground; a portfolio alone will not be enough.

  • Timeline: Selected contributors are expected to provide the finished piece within 3 weeks after commission.
