Organizer Information:

The Mill at Vicksburg, a redevelopment project of the former Lee Paper Company mill in the historic rural village of Vicksburg, Michigan.

Title & Description:

Applications are open for the Prairie Ronde Artist Residency.

We provide artists from a range of disciplines a 5–6 week process-based residency with the goal of engaging with The Mill and its surrounding 80 acres of property. We are looking for individuals who are highly independent, engaged, and curious. While we are process-based, we work with residents to share their work with the community through a gallery show, public workshop, or other formats.

Category:

Multidisciplinary.

Eligibility:

  • Who: Highly independent artists capable of creatively utilizing their surroundings with limited input. Collaborative groups may apply on a single application.
  • Geography / Strict Constraint: As of April 15th, the residency has temporarily suspended consideration of international applicants. (Applicants must be US-based).
  • Writers: Writers are allowed to apply, but only if they are open to creating new works directly related to The Mill and the surrounding area. (The residency is not suited for writers looking to simply finish projects already in progress).
  • Obligation: Artists must donate a piece of work produced during their time at the residency to the permanent collection.
  • Guests: Family and friends can visit for short periods, but residents are highly encouraged to make use of the solitude that the residency offers.

Program Benefits & Awards:

  • Financial Support: A $2,000 stipend upon completion of the residency. (Note for collaborators: The stipend is shared among the group, not per person).
  • Travel: A $500 travel grant.
  • Housing: Private housing provided.
  • Exhibition & Documentation: A gallery show in downtown Vicksburg and video documentation of the residency.
  • Perks: Membership to the Mug Club at the Distant Whistle Brewery.
