The Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion of Berlin (Senatsverwaltung für Kultur und Gesellschaftlichen Zusammenhalt) is a public authority responsible for supporting Berlin’s cultural sector, including artists, artistic projects, independent groups, and cultural initiatives. Through its Department I A, it provides project funding intended to strengthen the production and public presentation of contemporary art in Berlin.

Presentation Funding 2027 Berlin – Up to €55,000

Presentation Funding 2027: Project Grants for Presentations of Contemporary Visual Art in Berlin supports individual and group presentation projects taking place in Berlin between February and December 2027. The program aims to strengthen the public visibility of contemporary artistic work.

Eligible projects include exhibitions, exhibition catalogues and accompanying public programs such as performances, symposia, panel discussions, catalogue presentations, video programs, and guided tours. Funding is also available for the production and first public presentation of artistic videos.

Eligibility

The program is Berlin-based and is not open to international applicants without a Berlin residence or organizational address.

Eligible applicants include:

  • Individual visual artists
  • Artist groups and collectives
  • Curators
  • Project spaces and initiatives
  • Municipal galleries
  • Art associations

Individual artists and curators must have their primary residence in Berlin. For established collectives, the majority of members must have their primary residence in Berlin. Project spaces, initiatives, municipal galleries, and art associations must have a Berlin address. The majority of people involved in the project must also have their primary residence in Berlin.

Students are excluded. Commercial and profit-oriented projects, projects that have already started, and projects already receiving certain Berlin Senate or Hauptstadtkulturfonds funding are also excluded.

Program Benefits & Awards

The program provides project grants of up to:

  • €35,000 for individual projects
  • €55,000 for group projects

Eligible costs can include artist fees and material expenses. Travel and transportation costs for participants who do not live in Berlin are not eligible for funding.

Funding decisions are made following evaluation by an appointed jury. The main assessment criteria are the artistic quality and feasibility of the proposed project.

Additional Details

The detailed project description may not exceed 5 A4 pages, while the portfolio may not exceed 10 A4 pages. Applications exceeding these limits are formally excluded. The portfolio should focus primarily on work from the last six years.

Applicants must also provide a detailed financing plan using the prescribed template and observe the applicable minimum artist-fee requirements. Projects should consider accessibility for people with disabilities and indicate how the event will be made accessible.

The names of successful applicants, project titles, venues, and awarded amounts will be made public. Applicants are notified of the jury's decision by email.
