Organizer Information

The Red Corner International Artist Residency is an innovative creative hub based in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Established in 2021 with the support of the Goethe-Institut and initiated by the Mongolian Contemporary Art Support Association (MCASA), the organization seeks to dispel negative assumptions about the city's "ger districts" by fostering artistic neighborhoods and intercultural exchange. Over the years, Red Corner has expanded its reach beyond the capital, launching nomadic and research-focused programs that allow international practitioners to engage with Mongolia’s ancient traditions and modern transitions. Through its partnerships with organizations like EUNIC and various embassies, the residency provides a bridge between global contemporary art scenes and the unique sociological landscape of Mongolia.

Title & Description

"A Journey Through Time and Space" 2026
A Journey Through Time and Space is a unique, research-based nomadic residency program designed for artists, writers, curators, and researchers. Now in its second edition, the 2026 program invites participants on a two-week expedition to explore the duality of Mongolia: the high-energy, contemporary art scene of Ulaanbaatar and the vast, silent wilderness of the Gobi Steppes.

The residency is structured as a "moving laboratory." Participants spend time in the capital visiting studios and galleries before traveling off-road to Ikh Gazriin Chuluu, a majestic granite formation, and staying with authentic nomadic families. The goal is to provide a visceral experience of nomadic lifestyle, allowing artists to collect sounds, images, and inspirations that transcend conventional studio boundaries.

  • Visual Art & Media: Installation, Painting, Photography, Video, and Digital Media.
  • Sound & Music: Sound Art, Field Recording, and Ethnomusicology.
  • Literature & Writing: Art Criticism, Poetry, and Fiction.
