Kolodium Glass is a professional glass studio located in Prague, dedicated to the specific technique of kiln-cast glass sculpture (melting glass shards into custom-made molds).

Applications are open for the May 2026 Artist Residency at Kolodium Glass.
This program offers an intensive, hands-on immersion into glass casting. The residency creates a comprehensive arc of learning and production structured across four phases:

Phase 1 (Week 1): Creation of the initial model and negative mold.

Phase 2 (Weeks 2–3): Drying the mold while exploring glass processing, technology, and recycled glass experiments.

Phase 3 (Week 4): Firing, loading the kiln, and learning about melting/cooling curves.

Phase 4 (Weeks 5–6): Refining the fired piece using grinding, polishing, and sandblasting tools.

Eligibility:

Who: International artists of all backgrounds.

Experience Level: Open to everyone—from highly experienced glassmakers to complete beginners. No prior experience with glass is required.

Duration: A minimum stay of 4 weeks is required, but 5 to 6 weeks is strongly recommended to allow sufficient time for the molds to dry and for detailed finishing work.

Facilities: Access to a fully equipped workshop featuring a medium casting kiln, large casting kiln, large fusing kiln, and a complete cold-working/grinding workshop.

Mentorship: Full professional mentorship and expert guidance throughout the entire technical process.

Materials: All necessary materials, including the glass itself, are provided.

Documentation: Professional studio photography of your finished sculpture at the end of the residency.

Output: Artists typically leave with a finished, custom cast glass sculpture to take home.

Application Fee: Free to apply.

Residency Fee: This is a fee-based program costing 10,000 CZK (approx. €400) per week. This covers all materials, studio access, and professional instruction.

Accommodation: Housing is not provided, but the organizers will assist artists in finding suitable short-stay rentals or apartments in Prague.

Funding Support: Kolodium Glass will gladly provide invitation letters and necessary documents to help accepted artists secure external grants or scholarships.
Application Requirements:
To apply, artists need to provide a brief description of their work and photographic documentation of their past projects. The organizers are also open to creating customized residency plans tailored to specific needs.
