The Sitka Center for Art and Ecology is a respected nonprofit organization located on the central Oregon coast in the United States. Sitka Center for Art and Ecology Residency Program (Fall 2026 / Spring 2027)
This open call invites artists, writers, scientists, ecologists, educators, performers, and interdisciplinary creatives to apply for a
seasonal residency at Sitka’s coastal campus. The residency offers unstructured, self-directed time to work, explore ideas, and develop projects within the inspiring Cascade Head and Salmon River Estuary landscape. Residents are encouraged to engage with nature, reflect on their processes, and participate in a nurturing interdisciplinary community during a residency that can range from two weeks to three months.

Eligibility
- International and U.S. applicants are eligible.
- Open to practitioners at all career stages from emerging to established.
- Individuals or collaborative teams may apply with a single application.
- No age limit specified; commitment to equity and non-discrimination in selection.
Program Benefits & Awards
- Residency tenure on Sitka’s Oregon coast campus (private living and, if applicable, studio space).*
- Free housing and workspace provided for the duration of the residency.
- Opportunities for creative reflection and self-directed work away from daily constraints.
- Participation in Sitka’s Resident Talks (presentation by residents) is encouraged.
- Specialized residency stipends for specific tracks are available (e.g., Jordan Schnitzer Printmaking, Recorder Residency, and other named residencies with modest financial support for travel or living).
*Residents are responsible for travel, food, and personal supplies.
Application Fee
- A non-refundable $30 application fee is required to cover administrative costs.
- Fee waivers are available for applicants with financial need upon request.
Application Requirements
- Completed residency application form (through SlideRoom).
- Resume/CV (.doc, .docx, or .pdf).
- Work Samples appropriate to discipline:
- Visual arts/design: 8–10 high quality images
- Writers: writing samples (up to 10 pages for longer forms; multiple pieces for shorter forms)
- Musicians, performers, and filmmakers: 2–4 audio/video files or links
- Interdisciplinary/science/curatorial: combination of text, images, files demonstrating practice
- References: names and contact information (references will be sent a form).
