Title & Description
Slow Travel Artist Residency – Germany / France to Scotland Research Journey
The Environmental Arts Residency (EAR) is a research-driven residency program designed to support artists engaging critically with ecological and environmental issues. The program facilitates collaboration between artists and environmental scientists, researchers, or organizations, encouraging interdisciplinary exchange and the development of innovative, research-informed artistic work.
The residency provides selected artists with the opportunity to immerse themselves in environmental contexts, access scientific expertise, and explore ecological questions through contemporary artistic practice. Rather than focusing solely on the production of a final artwork, EAR emphasizes process-based research, experimentation, and dialogue.
Artists are expected to develop new work or research trajectories that respond to environmental challenges—such as climate change, biodiversity loss, sustainability, land use, or human–nature relationships—while engaging with academic or field-based environmental knowledge. Outcomes may include installations, moving-image works, performances, public programs, research presentations, or other interdisciplinary formats. Public engagement components, such as talks or presentations, may form part of the residency structure.
