Organizer Information
Studio 88 Artist Residency is an independent, artist-run residency space located in Doi Saket, a rural town in Northern Thailand, approximately 25 km from Chiang Mai. The residency is co-founded by cultural manager Sasiwimon Wongjarin and cultural writer Claire Rosslyn Wilson, both of whom bring extensive experience in international cultural programming, curatorial development, and artist facilitation.
The residency is designed as a reflective and experimental environment supporting artists, writers, performers, designers, and interdisciplinary practitioners. Studio 88 emphasizes process over production, offering time, space, and contextual support for research-driven and self-directed artistic development. Its mission is to foster dialogue between international practitioners and the local Thai creative ecosystem while maintaining a strong emphasis on slowness, experimentation, and cultural exchange.
Title & Description
Studio 88 Artist Residency – Open Call for International Artists
Studio 88 Artist Residency offers flexible residencies ranging from 2 weeks to 3 months, welcoming artists across disciplines to work in a quiet, semi-rural environment in Northern Thailand. The residency is located within a garden compound featuring private bungalows, shared studios, and communal creative spaces.
The program is intentionally open-ended, allowing artists to define their own research direction without pressure to produce a final output. Instead, the focus is placed on experimentation, reflection, and development of artistic practice.
Artists are introduced to the local context through curated studio visits, site tours, and optional engagement with Chiang Mai’s contemporary art scene. Local facilitation is provided by residency staff, enabling connections with regional artists, initiatives, and cultural institutions.
